# Free tools for licence, Medicare card and passport copies in Australia

Four free tools for copies of Australian documents, all running in your browser: compress a scan to a portal’s limit, turn photos into an A4 PDF, watermark a copy for one recipient, and hide the numbers a recipient does not need. Nothing is uploaded and there is no account.

- [Watermark](https://dokus.app/en-au/watermark-id-copy/): Write who the copy is for across the whole document, keep every detail readable, and download it. Nothing is uploaded.
- [Compress](https://dokus.app/en-au/compress-id-scan/): Pick the portal’s limit, from 100 KB to 5 MB, and read the small print before you download. Nothing is uploaded.
- [Photos to PDF](https://dokus.app/en-au/id-card-to-pdf/): Both sides of a card on one A4 page at real size, or a full-page scan. It all happens in your browser.
- [Hide details](https://dokus.app/en-au/redact-id/): Box out what the recipient does not need. The boxes are burned into the copy, and nothing leaves your browser.

## Pick the tool by the request in front of you

| You have been asked for | Tool | The Australian detail |
|---|---|---|
| An attachment under ImmiAccount’s 5 MB limit, or a smaller portal’s | [Compress](https://dokus.app/en-au/compress-id-scan/) | ImmiAccount refuses encrypted PDFs; the tool’s PDFs carry no password |
| A copy to take to a justice of the peace for certifying, or both sides of a card in one file | [Photo to PDF](https://dokus.app/en-au/id-card-to-pdf/) | A4 by default, cards at real size |
| ID for a rental application | [Watermark](https://dokus.app/en-au/watermark-id-copy/) | Victoria caps identity documents at two; Queensland agents keep copies only with your consent |
| A copy without your licence or Medicare number | [Hide details](https://dokus.app/en-au/redact-id/) | The OAIC says an agent copying such a number must generally blank it out |

The demonstrations use specimen Australian documents with made-up details, a driver licence and a passport. The photo to PDF tool also lays out a Medicare card or Photo card at real size.

## What goes in and what comes out

In: a JPG, PNG, HEIC or PDF of up to 25 MB. Only the first ten pages of a PDF are used, and a password-protected PDF has to be exported without its password first. HEIC opens where the browser supports it; on an iPhone, picking from the photo library hands over a JPG.

Out: a JPG or a PDF, with location and other camera data left out. A PDF holds one image per page, so selectable text, form fields and digital signatures from the original do not survive. Every tool also has Crop, Rotate and Blur, and a copy can go through two tools in turn, for example watermark, then compress.

## Why nothing is uploaded

Your browser reads the file and draws the copy on your device; once the page has loaded, the tools work offline. The site keeps no document, and the download goes where you save it. That matters with ImmiAccount too, where Home Affairs says you cannot open an attachment again after uploading it, so the copy you keep is your record.

Every [guide for Australian documents](/en-au/guides/) cites the government pages behind it, from scanning on iPhone to what an agent may ask for.

## When you share documents often

Dokus keeps your originals encrypted on your iPhone and opens them with Face ID. Each time you share, it can mark the copy with the recipient’s name, hide details and make it smaller. Storage, iCloud sync and every sharing tool are free.

## Common questions

### Are the four tools free?

Yes. There is no account, nothing is uploaded, and you download the finished copy.

### Do the tools work without an internet connection?

Once the page and its resources have loaded, yes. All the processing runs in your browser.

### Is A4 the default paper?

Yes, A4 for Australia, with cards placed at real size. Letter is one tap away under Paper when a recipient overseas asks for it.

### Can these tools certify a copy?

No. A certified copy for a paper application to Home Affairs needs a certifier, such as a justice of the peace, to compare your copy with the original and sign it. The PDF tool can make the copy you take along.

Dokus keeps the originals encrypted on your iPhone and shares marked, trimmed or smaller copies whenever someone asks. [Free on the App Store](https://apps.apple.com/au/app/dokus-private-id-wallet/id6781915709)
