# Bermuda driving licence renewal: medical declaration

From 19 October 2026, most Bermuda driving licence renewals can use an online Personal Medical Declaration instead of a doctor’s certificate. A medical certificate remains required for drivers aged 70 or over, other vehicle classes and cases where the Director has concerns.

## Prepare the official request

1. Check your licence category and expiry date before choosing the renewal route.
2. Open the current Transport Control Department instructions from the government website.
3. If eligible, complete the Personal Medical Declaration through transportcontrol.gov.bm ahead of renewal.
4. If you are 70 or older, or your category or circumstances require it, obtain the required medical certificate instead.
5. Follow TCD’s remaining renewal steps and retain the declaration or certificate and payment receipt.

## Keep the right evidence

Older application pages still describe medical certificates more generally. The government’s 15 October 2026 announcement gives the later change effective on 19 October. Read the current renewal instructions together with your licence category; do not use an old general application checklist as the whole renewal procedure.

Submitting a declaration is one part of the renewal, not proof that a new licence has been issued. Keep the existing card, the confirmation and any medical document separate. Complete the declaration accurately and obtain TCD clarification if a condition affects the route.
