# Police record in The Bahamas: request the certificate

MyGateway calls the police record a Police Character Certificate and offers an online request for Bahamian citizens aged 18 or older applying for themselves. If you fall outside that published route, ask the Royal Bahamas Police Force which procedure applies.

## Prepare the official request

1. Confirm the recipient needs a Police Character Certificate rather than a traffic record or fingerprints.
2. Open the Royal Bahamas Police Force service on MyGateway.
3. Check that the self-application eligibility fits you before starting.
4. Complete the fields and attachments requested by the live service and confirm the charge before paying.
5. Keep the reference, receipt and instructions for receiving the certificate.

Keep personal copies and application receipts together in Dokus on your iPhone. Keep the originals and official verification route available. 4.8 out of 5 stars [Free on the App Store](https://apps.apple.com/bs/app/dokus-private-id-wallet/id6781915709)

## Keep the right evidence

The same MyGateway page offers several police services. A traffic record concerns outstanding traffic matters and is not interchangeable with the Police Character Certificate. Select the certificate named in the employer’s or institution’s request.

When the document arrives, check your name and the details relevant to the request. Keep the issued version unchanged. Ask the recipient what age of certificate and delivery method it accepts instead of assuming every institution uses the same rule.

If a recipient accepts a personal working copy, you can [label a separately agreed reference copy](https://dokus.app/en-bs/watermark-bahamas-passport-licence-data-access/). A watermark states a purpose; it does not conceal data or certify a document. Exported files are image-based and do not preserve original digital signatures or selectable PDF text. Keep this output separate from any original, certified copy or unchanged official file required for submission.

For related evidence, see [Bahamian birth certificates](https://dokus.app/en-bs/bahamas-birth-certificate-copy/) and [work permit renewal documents](https://dokus.app/en-bs/bahamas-work-permit-renewal-documents/).

## Questions

### Who can use the advertised online route?

The MyGateway page specifies Bahamian citizens aged 18 or older applying for themselves.

### Is a traffic record the same certificate?

No. MyGateway lists the services separately. Confirm the exact certificate requested.

### Can a marked scan replace the issued certificate?

Only use a personal reference copy where expressly accepted. Preserve the issued certificate for the official requirement.
