# How to scan multiple pages into one PDF on iPhone

To scan multiple pages into one PDF, capture them in the same scanning session before finishing. On iPhone, open Files, choose Scan Documents, add each page, then tap Done and save the PDF. Open the saved file to check the page count and reading order.

A six-page tenancy agreement should arrive as one complete file. Put the sheets in reading order before you start, then keep the scanner open until you have captured the final page.

## Scan the pages together in Files

[Apple's Files scanner](https://support.apple.com/en-gb/108963) lets you add captures before finishing the document:

1. Open Files, tap More, then Scan Documents.
2. Capture the first page. If automatic capture misses it, use the shutter and adjust the corners.
3. Present the next page and continue in the same session. Capture each double-sided sheet's back immediately after its front.
4. After the final page, tap Done, choose the folder and tap Save.
5. Open the saved PDF. Count the pages and check that the beginning, end and reading order are correct.

Use a name for the whole document, such as `Tenancy agreement - flat - 2026`. Notes also lets you add more scans to a document before finishing.

Dokus scans a document's pages together and keeps the complete named file on your iPhone, protected by Face ID. 4.8 out of 5 stars [Free on the App Store](https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/dokus-private-id-wallet/id6781915709)

## Start with the files or paper you actually have

| Your starting point | Useful next step |
|---|---|
| Several paper sheets of one document | Capture them together in one scanner session. |
| Photos already taken of the pages | [Crop and straighten the document photos](https://dokus.app/en-gb/scan-documents-from-photos/) before preparing the required file. |
| Separate PDFs that need to become one submission | Use the [PDF joining tool](https://dokus.app/en-gb/combine-licence-passport-pdf-files-into-one/), then inspect the combined file. |
| The two sides of an identity document | Follow the [ID scanning guide](https://dokus.app/en-gb/scan-id-on-iphone/) and check whether the recipient wants one page or two. |

Scanning captures paper; joining combines files that already exist. Keeping a scan session open avoids creating a separate file for each sheet in the first place.

## Check every page while the paper is still in front of you

Use a flat surface that contrasts with the paper and light that avoids the phone's shadow. Keep the full sheet visible. Inspect small print, signatures and details near the edges before putting each page aside.

Capture a blurred or clipped page again immediately. For double-sided documents, follow the printed page numbers. Include an apparently blank back if the recipient asks for a complete reproduction including blank pages.

If you are scanning a very long receipt in sections, leave a little overlap and check that nothing falls between captures. The [receipt scanning guide](https://dokus.app/en-gb/how-to-scan-receipts/) covers readability and filing the resulting copy.

## Scan and keep the complete document in Dokus

1. Open Dokus's add options and choose the camera scan.
2. Capture the pages in reading order. Open the thumbnail to review them; use Adjust for the crop or rotation, or delete a page that needs another capture.
3. Return to the camera and tap Save once the set is complete.
4. Choose One document when offered, review the pages and continue to give the document a name.
5. Save it and open the complete result before sharing a copy.

Pages saved together as One document use one document place in Dokus. This scanning workflow is available free within the five-document limit for new installations. Combining several separately stored documents into one shared PDF is a different feature, available with Dokus Plus.

Dokus keeps the copies locally behind Face ID or Touch ID, with offline access and optional sync through your own iCloud.

## Prepare a smaller copy if the upload requires it

Check the recipient's format and size limit after saving. Keep the complete document and make a smaller copy using the [PDF compression tool](https://dokus.app/en-gb/compress-id-scan/), or compression in Dokus's share editor. Read the small print in the exported copy before submitting it.

- The page count matches the original document.
- Required fronts and backs are present, without duplicates.
- Reading order follows the original page numbers.
- Edges, signatures and small print remain readable.
- The actual PDF to be sent opens and fits the recipient's limit.

Keep the checked document in Dokus so you can reuse the complete file when it is requested again.

## Common questions

### Can I scan multiple pages into one PDF for free on iPhone?

Yes. Open the document scanner in Files, capture all the pages in one session, then finish and save. Open the resulting PDF to check its page count and order.

### How do I scan a double-sided document?

Capture the first sheet's front, then its back, before moving to the next sheet. Compare the printed page numbers with the reading order in your saved PDF.

### Is scanning multiple pages the same as merging PDFs?

No. Scanning captures paper pages, while merging joins files that already exist. Capturing the pages together can avoid a separate merging step.

### Does a multipage scan count as several documents in Dokus?

Pages saved together as One document occupy one place in the wallet. New installations can keep five documents free. Sharing several separately stored documents as one PDF requires Dokus Plus.
