Its guidance questions collecting photo ID, financial statements and PPSNs from everyone applying to view. Ask why the letting agent needs the attachment at this stage and what evidence is necessary before preparing a copy. The tasks below are for the eventual tenant's agreed document sharing. A copy does not establish immigration permission, certify an original or make an excessive information request appropriate. ## How to redact a passport, licence or payslip copy 1. Choose your passport or driving licence photo, scan or PDF. 2. With Blur selected, drag a box over each unnecessary field. Remove a misplaced box with its corner control. 3. Inspect both sides and all pages. A passport repeats details in its machine-readable lines; a number hidden in one place may still be visible elsewhere. 4. Download and reopen the exported copy. Send that file rather than the original you used to make it. There is no safe default list for every recipient. A name, photograph, date of birth, address or identifier may be essential to one check and unnecessary for another. Agree the purpose before covering anything. ## A rental application does not need every field automatically The Data Protection Commission's letting-agent case included identification, financial records and a PPS number requested too early in the application. The finding concerned excessive collection. Redacting a file is useful only after deciding whether sending that document is justified in the first place. A PPS number on a payslip or other supporting page may need separate attention. Do not treat hiding it as a substitute for satisfying any legitimate requirement later in the tenancy process. Ask the recipient which document and fields they need at the current stage. ## What the boxes remove The control is named Blur, but it replaces the selected region with a paper-like texture rather than leaving the original pixels blurred underneath. The exported copy has no removable box revealing the original field. Protection extends only to the selected region, so inspect machine-readable lines, codes and other pages too. Inputs can be JPG, PNG, supported HEIC or PDF up to 25 MB. Only the first ten pages of a PDF are processed. The downloaded PDF contains an image of each page. Selectable text, interactive fields and digital signatures are not preserved. Keep an original signed PDF or a fillable form outside this workflow. An official check may refuse a redacted image. The copy does not become a certified document or official digital credential. Keep your full original protected for processes that require it. Both operations run in your browser. ## Common questions ### Which passport details should I hide? Only those the recipient agrees are unnecessary. If covering the passport number, check the machine-readable lines that repeat it. Required identity-check fields must stay visible. ### Does the exported copy contain the hidden text underneath? The selected image region is replaced in the export. There is no removable text layer below it, but details outside the box and repeated codes still need checking. ### Can I use a redacted copy for every Irish application? No. Requirements vary. An official service can require a complete, unaltered scan or the original, and this tool cannot certify a copy. ### Can I blur text in a passport or payslip PDF? Use Blur to cover only the fields agreed for that tenancy copy. The result looks blurred, but replaces the original pixels with paper-like texture.
