# Singapore marriage certificate: find the digital PDF or request a duplicate

For a Singapore civil marriage, the official certificate is a password-protected PDF emailed after registration. Save that file unchanged; if you need a replacement, use the civil marriage duplicate service on Our Marriage Journey rather than a ceremonial certificate or a personal scan.

Start by identifying which registry holds your marriage. This guide covers civil marriages through the Registry of Marriages (ROM). [Muslim marriages use the separate ROMM route](https://ask.gov.sg/ourmarriagejourney/questions/cm4b5wmxw001vcm2jbdf7yy19?from=topics), even though both appear on Our Marriage Journey (OMJ).

## Find the file after a civil solemnisation

The [official civil marriage FAQ](https://ask.gov.sg/ourmarriagejourney/questions/cm4b5wmyl00c3cm2job8vt19j) says the digital copy is emailed after registration, at the latest within one week after the ceremony.

1. Search the email account used for your marriage application, including spam and archived messages.
2. Open the certificate attachment and follow the supplied password instructions.
3. Check both names and the marriage details before filing it.
4. Save the attachment itself, rather than a screenshot of the email preview.

Keep the message with the file until you have checked that you can reopen it. If the expected email has not arrived, use ROM's official enquiry channel through OMJ with your application details ready.

Keep a reference copy of your marriage certificate with your other family documents in Dokus on your iPhone. 4.8 out of 5 stars [Free on the App Store](https://apps.apple.com/sg/app/dokus-private-id-wallet/id6781915709)

## Choose the document you actually need

| What you have or need | Next step |
|---|---|
| Official digital certificate | Preserve the original PDF |
| Ceremonial certificate signed for the occasion | Retrieve the official record for official use |
| Missing civil certificate | Open OMJ's civil duplicate service |
| Muslim marriage record | Follow ROMM's separate certificate instructions |
| Photograph of an older paper certificate | Keep as a reference; request an official copy if required |

The [civil process guide](https://www.marriage.gov.sg/Civil_Overview_of_Marriage_Process.pdf) distinguishes the ceremonial keepsake from the official digital record. Singpass does not hold the certificate PDF, even when it displays your marital status.

## Request a civil duplicate through the correct service

For marriages registered on or after 15 September 1961, [OMJ's civil certificate FAQ](https://ask.gov.sg/ourmarriagejourney/questions/cm4b5wmyf009rcm2jh86u35iv?from=topics) directs applicants to e-Services, then Civil marriage, then Duplicate of marriage certificate.

Open the [civil duplicate certificate page](https://www.marriage.gov.sg/civil/marriage-records/duplicate-of-marriage-certificate) and read its current instructions before starting. Check the requested particulars, charges and delivery arrangements in the service itself. For an earlier record, ask ROM which record route applies before paying for a search or copy.

Have your existing record details available if you hold them. Record the application reference and submission date separately from the certificate, so you can distinguish an acknowledgement from the issued document later. Do not label a saved application screen as a marriage certificate.

## Keep an original and a working copy

OMJ's civil guide explains that verification uses the certificate's QR code or the portal's verification service. Preserve the complete file and its verification information. Ask a receiving organisation which version it needs before altering anything.

For your own filing, use a descriptive name such as `marriage-certificate-original.pdf`. Keep any cropped, compressed or marked derivative under a different name. An edited reference copy does not become an issuer credential merely because it looks clear on screen.

Store password instructions separately from a broadly shared family folder. Check access from the device you expect to use, and retain a backup you can recover if that device is unavailable. Share only with the intended recipient through the channel they specify.

## Check before you close the task

- The registry and service match your marriage.
- The saved file opens and contains the correct particulars.
- The original PDF and verification details remain intact.
- The acknowledgement and any edited copies have distinct names.
- You can locate the file again without searching your whole inbox.

Dokus organises personal copies; it does not issue certificates or retrieve them from ROM. For another family record, the [Singapore birth extract guide](https://dokus.app/en-sg/singapore-birth-extract-download/) covers ICA's separate replacement and download process.

## Singapore marriage certificate questions

### Can I download the certificate from Singpass?

Use the emailed PDF or OMJ's applicable certificate service. The civil process guide says the digital certificate is not available in Singpass.

### Can I submit the ceremonial certificate instead?

Retrieve the official digital record for official purposes. Keep the ceremonial certificate as a separate keepsake.

### Does this duplicate route cover a Muslim marriage?

Use ROMM's Muslim marriage instructions. Its eligibility conditions and fees belong to that service and should not be applied to a civil marriage request.
