Bahamas work permit renewal: organise the documents

Use the Bahamas Department of Immigration renewal or extension route for the permit you already hold. The official form distinguishes permit types and asks for applicant, employer or sponsor details, changes in circumstances and an authorisation signature.

Prepare the official request

  1. Identify the existing permit type, immigration file reference and the correct renewal channel.
  2. Check the form’s applicant information against the passport and previous permit.
  3. Complete the employer or sponsor section where applicable; describe relevant changes since the previous grant.
  4. Obtain the required authorisation and follow Immigration’s checklist for the selected route.
  5. Save the application confirmation and each payment receipt, keeping them separate from the permit itself.

Keep the right evidence

The online FAQ remains hosted by Immigration but is dated 2021. Treat its attachment instructions as guidance for that portal, then check the live field before preparing a file. Do not assume that every renewal is eligible online or that a historic size rule applies to another service.

Keep signed forms, official certificates and original supporting documents available. A scan prepared for an employer’s review is separate from whatever Immigration requires for a valid filing.

If a recipient accepts a personal working copy, you can reduce an accepted reference scan. The result is an image-based PDF or JPG. It does not preserve selectable PDF text, interactive fields or an original digital signature. Keep this output separate from any original, certified copy or unchanged official file required for submission.

For identity evidence, see Bahamian passport renewal. For the record check, see Police Character Certificates.

Questions

Does a renewal receipt itself grant a new permit?

A receipt records a request or payment. Follow Immigration’s decision and status instructions for your actual permission.

Should I use a fixed attachment size from an old FAQ?

Check the live field for the current file type and ceiling. A historic portal document is not a universal requirement.

Can I replace a signed original with a converted scan?

Only when Immigration’s applicable instructions permit that kind of copy. Preserve originals and required certification.

My documents used to be all scattered through my gallery, I managed to organize them all. I personally like the watermark feature… I used it a lot while traveling, it makes sharing IDs much safer… it stamps a copy with the name of the company you are sharing with (say, an AirBnb or a car rental). It’s still a bit rough around the edges but it’s a new app and the dev seems to be working on it. Price is alright given it’s a one time payment.. one less subscription!
