Can I put my driver licence or passport in Apple Wallet in Australia?

Not yet. As of 13 October 2026, Apple’s ID in Wallet list covers several US states, American passports and Japan’s My Number Card, but no Australian document. Here a digital driver licence lives in your state or territory’s own app, such as Service NSW, myVicRoads or Queensland’s Digital Licence, and a digital Medicare card lives in the myGov app’s wallet.

Apple Wallet and Australian ID today

Apple’s feature availability page lists ID in Wallet for a set of US states, American passports and Japan’s My Number Card. Australia appears on that page for Apple Pay and for public transport in Sydney, not for identity, so there is no option to add an Australian licence, Photo Card or passport.

Other states and territories run their own licence services. The digital licences are optional, and NSW and Queensland both say the plastic card stays.

Take the plastic card when you leave your state

NSW says its digital licence can be used across NSW and asks you to carry the plastic card if you travel interstate or overseas. VicRoads gives the same advice for interstate trips, and Queensland recommends always carrying the physical licence as a backup. myGov likewise suggests keeping physical cards with you while providers get ready for digital ones.

Digital ID is a sign-in, not a card

myID, the Australian Government’s Digital ID, proves who you are to online services, such as when changing jobs or applying for a rental, and asks you to agree each time before any details are shared. It is voluntary, open to people aged 15 and over, and does not replace your physical ID documents.

When someone still wants a copy

VicRoads says a digital licence currently cannot be shared as a PDF, email or print, so a copy for an agent has to come from the plastic card. Scan the card on your iPhone, see which state apps can export a licence PDF, and check what an agent may ask for before sending it.

Dokus is a wallet for those copies: each document encrypted on your iPhone with its front and back, opened with Face ID or Touch ID, even offline. It is not a digital licence, and it does not connect to any state app or to myGov.

Common questions

Will Apple Wallet support Australian driver licences?

Apple has not listed any Australian state or territory on its ID in Wallet availability page as of 13 October 2026. Until it does, use the app your licence issuer provides and check Apple’s page for changes.

Is a screenshot of my digital licence valid ID?

Do not rely on it. NSW checkers confirm a digital licence by looking at its features or scanning its QR code, and a VicRoads QR code lasts two minutes before it must be refreshed against your record. A screenshot is a still picture of all that.

Can I put my Medicare card on my phone?

Yes, in the wallet of the myGov app, if Medicare is linked to your myGov account. The card carries a QR code that a provider can scan to check it is genuine, and myGov suggests carrying the physical card while providers get ready.
