How to scan multiple pages into one PDF on iPhone

To scan multiple pages into one PDF, capture every page in the same scanning session before finishing. On iPhone, Notes lets you add further scans to the document; check the complete file before sharing it. Dokus also lets you keep a multipage capture as one named document.

A six-page rental agreement should arrive as one complete file. Put the paper in reading order before starting, then keep the scanner open until the last page has been captured.

Capture all the pages in one session

In Notes, open a note and choose Attachment, then Scan Documents. Capture each page, adjust the crop where necessary and continue with the next. Tap Done after the final page. Apple India's guide confirms that you can add further scans to the same document.

Open the completed scan, use its sharing options to save or send the PDF, and inspect that actual file. Count its pages and check the first and last pages. A thumbnail alone does not show whether a middle page is missing.

Choose the workflow that matches your starting point

What you haveWhat to do
Several sheets of one paper documentCapture them in one scanner session.
Existing photos of the pagesCrop and straighten those photos before saving the required output.
Separate PDF filesCombine the existing files with a PDF-merging workflow, rather than scanning the screen.
A double-sided sheetCapture its front and back in reading order; confirm whether blank sides are required.

Adobe's multipage scanning guide also distinguishes capturing pages from combining existing files. The device may differ, but the final check remains the same: open the file that will reach the recipient.

Keep every page readable

Lay the document on a flat surface that contrasts with the paper. Avoid shadows over text, and keep all edges in view. If you remove staples, do so without damaging the original.

For a double-sided agreement, follow its printed page numbers rather than assuming that all fronts come first. Capture a blurred or incomplete page again while the paper is still in front of you. Keep colour where it helps show stamps or annotations.

Use a name for the whole document, such as `Rental agreement 2026`, rather than a name describing only its first sheet. An upload form may have separate fields for different documents; do not combine unrelated papers merely because you can.

Scan and keep one document in Dokus

  1. Open Dokus's add options and choose the camera scan.
  2. Capture each page in order. Review the page thumbnails, adjust edges or rotation, and delete a bad capture before retaking it.
  3. Finish the camera session once the complete document is captured.
  4. Choose One document when offered, check the pages, then name and add the document.
  5. Open the saved result and share a PDF when that is the required format.

Dokus stores documents locally behind Face ID or Touch ID, with optional synchronisation through your own iCloud. A multipage document saved as one document is available in the free app, within the five-document limit for new installations. Combining already stored documents into one shared PDF is a separate Dokus Plus feature.

Prepare the copy for the recipient

  • Count the PDF pages against the original.
  • Check reading order and the backs of double-sided sheets.
  • Look for missing edges, duplicated pages and blurred small print.
  • Confirm the recipient wants these papers in the same upload.
  • Open the file you will actually send and check its size and format.

If it is too large, keep your full copy and prepare a smaller one with PDF compression. Review small text afterwards. Compression cannot restore detail lost in the scan.

Keep the complete document in Dokus so the next request starts with a file you have already checked.

Common questions

Can I scan multiple pages into one PDF for free on iPhone?

Yes. Keep adding pages to the same document in the built-in scanner before finishing. Check the PDF you save or share for completeness and page order.

How should I scan both sides of a document?

Capture the front of a sheet and then its back, following the document's printed order. Include blank sides if the recipient specifically requires a complete reproduction.

Is scanning several pages the same as merging PDFs?

No. Scanning captures paper pages into a file; merging combines files that already exist. Capturing a paper document in one session can avoid a separate merging step.

Does a multipage scan use several Dokus document slots?

When saved as One document, its pages form one wallet document. New free installations support five documents. Combining separate stored documents into a shared PDF requires Dokus Plus.

Why did the scanner give me separate files?

You may have finished after each page or chosen separate documents at import. Keep the capture session open for the complete document, then choose the one-document option where available.

My documents used to be all scattered through my gallery, I managed to organize them all. I personally like the watermark feature… I used it a lot while traveling, it makes sharing IDs much safer… it stamps a copy with the name of the company you are sharing with (say, an AirBnb or a car rental). It’s still a bit rough around the edges but it’s a new app and the dev seems to be working on it. Price is alright given it’s a one time payment.. one less subscription!
