Add recipient and purpose text to a separate Aadhaar or PAN reference copy when the receiver accepts a marked image. Watermarking is optional: it does not establish acceptance for KYC, replace issuer verification or create UIDAI's Masked Aadhaar.

Mark an accepted reference copy

  1. Establish what the recipient actually needs and whether it accepts visible text on the copy. Use its official submission channel.
  2. Choose a photo, scan or unlocked PDF. Add the back only when needed and check the crop and rotation.
  3. Replace the sample text with a short recipient and purpose, such as “For Example Office, reference only”. The example is fictional.
  4. Keep required details readable, review the preview and download. The tool adds the date.

For another recipient, start from the original and create a fresh copy. Do not treat a watermark as permission to disclose a complete Aadhaar number.

Check the requested credential first

UIDAI offers a Masked Aadhaar download that shows only the last four Aadhaar digits. A visible watermark does not mask a number or create that issuer document. Read the Masked Aadhaar guide before deciding which copy to use.

The opened UIDAI service page does not establish that any bank, landlord, employer or public office accepts watermarked files. This tool therefore makes no such acceptance claim. Where the receiver requires an unmodified issuer PDF or an official verification flow, follow that requirement.

Understand the exported file

Files are processed in the browser, without a document upload. JPG, PNG, browser-compatible HEIC and unlocked PDF inputs can be up to 25 MB. Only the first ten pages of an input PDF are processed; check that no required page is missing from the export. A protected e-Aadhaar PDF cannot be opened here.

An exported PDF has image pages and does not preserve the original selectable text, form fields or digital signature. Watermarks can make reuse more noticeable, but cannot guarantee that an image will never be edited or misused.

Use Aadhaar and PAN to PDF for layout, compression for a documented upload ceiling, or redaction for unnecessary details on an accepted reference copy.

Watermark questions

Is a watermark required for Aadhaar or PAN?

This page establishes no universal requirement. Use it only as an optional mark on a reference copy the receiver accepts.

Is a watermarked Aadhaar the same as Masked Aadhaar?

No. Masked Aadhaar is an issuer download with the first eight digits hidden. A watermark is text added to a working copy.

Will this preserve the original digital signature?

No. The export contains images of the pages. Keep and use the unchanged issuer file whenever its digital signature is required.
