Free tools for Aadhaar, PAN and document uploads in India

4.6 out of 5 stars21 ratings

Two free tools for the copies Indian forms and offices ask for: mask the first 8 digits of your Aadhaar number on a photo or scan, and compress a scan, PDF or photo to the size a portal accepts. Both work in your browser and upload nothing.

What you are asked forFree toolWhat to check
An Aadhaar copy showing only the last 4 digitsMask AadhaarEvery place the number is printed, and that the recipient does not need the full number
A photo, scan or PDF under a size in KBCompress to KBThe portal's maximum and minimum, and that the text still reads

The examples are an Aadhaar card, a PAN card and a passport. The demonstrations use fictional Indian specimens, marked as specimens; a copy you save is not an official document.

Inputs, outputs and limits

Choose JPG, PNG, HEIC or PDF up to 25 MB. The first ten pages of a PDF are used. A password-protected PDF, such as the e-Aadhaar downloaded from UIDAI, cannot be opened here: use a photo or scan of the card or letter instead.

Download saves JPG or PDF, and location and other camera details are removed. A PDF exported here contains images of the pages, so selectable text and form fields are not kept. Keep the original file.

Each tool crops a photo to the document's edges by itself and offers Rotate and Blur. To mask and then compress the same copy, save the masked result and open it in Compress.

What Indian forms ask for

UIDAI's masked e-Aadhaar masks the first 8 digits of the Aadhaar number and shows the last 4, and UIDAI offers it only as an e-Aadhaar. Upload limits come from each portal: UPSC takes the photograph and signature as JPG between 20 KB and 300 KB, and a PAN application through Protean takes them up to 50 KB each, with supporting documents as PDF up to 300 KB per page. Read the current instructions on the form you are filling in.

No document upload or account

The browser reads your chosen file and draws the copy on your device. Once the page has loaded, processing works offline. The website does not store your document; you decide where to keep the download.

For repeated use, Dokus keeps originals encrypted on your iPhone and shares masked or smaller copies. Its free tier includes all sharing tools and optional iCloud sync, with five documents included.

Common questions

Are these tools free?

Yes. No account or document upload is needed. Choose the tool, check the preview and save your copy.

Can I open my e-Aadhaar PDF here?

Not while it is password protected. Download the masked e-Aadhaar from UIDAI, or use a photo or scan of your Aadhaar card or letter.

Are the example documents real?

No. The demonstrations use fictional Indian specimens with invented details, marked as specimens.
