CRA proof of income statement: get the right tax-year record

Get a CRA proof of income statement from the Tax returns area of My Account, or request a mailed copy through CRA’s official service. Confirm the tax year and accepted document with the recipient before supplying this summary of income and deductions.

A recipient asking for proof of income may mean a specific CRA record. The proof of income statement is a summary of income and deductions for one tax year. Ask whether this is the document required before sending a full return or another assessment record.

Obtain the statement

  1. Sign in to CRA My Account using the link on the official page.
  2. Open Tax returns and select Proof of income statement.
  3. Choose the requested tax year and view or print the statement.
  4. If you need mail delivery, follow CRA’s official ordering option. For the automated telephone route, have the identity and assessment information listed on that page ready.
  5. Open the resulting document and check the holder and year before sharing it.

CRA notes that the online copy lacks the section 241 stamp. This does not mean you should add a stamp yourself. If the recipient asks for a different format, clarify that request with the recipient and CRA.

Inspect the whole document

A filename is not enough to identify the right attachment. Open the file, check that every page is present and ensure that you have not included another household member’s record. Keep the source separately from any copy prepared for an application.

The statement can expose your SIN as well as financial details. Service Canada recommends limiting access to SIN records. Confirm the recipient and its secure channel before attaching the file.

If the recipient explicitly permits removing unrelated identifiers, the redaction tool can create a separate image-based copy. It does not preserve selectable PDF text or guarantee acceptance. Keep the original and do not obscure figures or information needed for verification. For the separate SIN confirmation record, see how to find or request it.

Questions about CRA income statements

Where is the statement in My Account?

CRA directs individuals to Proof of income statement in the Tax returns section. Select the requested year before printing or saving it.

Can I request a mailed copy?

Yes. Use the official mail-order instructions on CRA’s page and prepare the listed verification information.

Can I hide my SIN before sending the statement?

Ask the recipient first. A modified copy may not meet its verification requirements; retain the unchanged CRA source in all cases.

My documents used to be all scattered through my gallery, I managed to organize them all. I personally like the watermark feature… I used it a lot while traveling, it makes sharing IDs much safer… it stamps a copy with the name of the company you are sharing with (say, an AirBnb or a car rental). It’s still a bit rough around the edges but it’s a new app and the dev seems to be working on it. Price is alright given it’s a one time payment.. one less subscription!
