Singpass reset password: recover access through the official portal
To reset your Singpass password, start from Singpass's official reset guidance, enter your NRIC or FIN, complete Face Verification or SMS OTP as offered, and create a new password. This online route requires previously set-up two-factor authentication; Singpass Foreign Account holders use the app without a password.
A forgotten password can interrupt a document application or stop you retrieving a record. Complete account recovery with Singpass first, then return to the agency that issues the document. You do not need to send Dokus your Singpass credentials to keep a copy of a document afterwards.
Reset through Singpass
The official Singpass password-reset answer gives the recovery route for people who have already set up two-factor authentication, or 2FA:
- Open that official guidance and follow its link to the Singpass reset portal.
- Enter your NRIC or FIN in the official recovery form.
- Complete the verification method the service offers, such as Face Verification or an SMS one-time password.
- Create your new password in the Singpass flow.
- Return to the agency service you originally wanted and sign in again.
If the page asks for a verification method you cannot complete, use the official help route. A document photo, someone else's account or a request sent to an unofficial helper does not replace the account checks.
Check which problem you have
| Situation | Next step |
|---|---|
| Forgotten Singpass password with 2FA already set up | Use the official online reset flow |
| Online recovery cannot be completed | Seek assistance through Singpass support or a counter |
| Face Verification repeatedly fails | Ask about counter assistance rather than repeating an unsuccessful recovery indefinitely |
| Singpass Foreign Account | Follow the Foreign Account app instructions; a password reset is not required |
| You can already log in through the Singpass app | Use the service's offered app login where suitable; recover the password separately if you need password login |
GovTech explains the distinction: Singpass supports app login as well as password-based login with additional verification. The app's authentication is not the same thing as typing the account password into a browser.
If your mobile number or face check blocks you
If you no longer have your registered number, do not assume another person's SMS code can verify your account. Follow Singpass's guidance for updating your details or ask for assistance if you cannot sign in.
The CPF Board's recovery advice points people to a Singpass counter when online reset is not feasible or facial recognition consistently fails. Use the counter link there to check a suitable location and its current arrangements before travelling.
GovTech's guidance for counter assistance with a mobile-number update says to bring the necessary verification document, such as your original NRIC or FIN card. Confirm what is needed for your own recovery case. A saved scan helps you refer to details, but it does not establish that a counter will accept it in place of the original.
Keep credentials separate from documents
Use the official service yourself and keep passwords, one-time codes and account authentication details private. Do not save these credentials as a document in Dokus or send them with an NRIC photo. GovTech's security guidance says Singpass credentials should not be given to others.
Once access works, return to the actual issuer for the record you need. For example, choose the right CPF statement, retrieve your IRAS Notice of Assessment, or check Myinfo sharing before approving a data request.
Keep an issuer-provided PDF unchanged when a recipient needs its original digital features. If a separate personal reference copy is useful and the recipient accepts an image-based PDF, the conversion tool can help organise images. Its output does not retain selectable PDF text or a digital signature from an input PDF, and cannot replace a record issued by the agency.
Before returning to your application
- Account recovery was completed through the official Singpass service
- You can access the agency service you actually need
- No password or one-time code was added to a document copy
- The issuer's original document is saved separately from any edited reference copy
- The recipient's document and file requirements have been checked
Download Dokus through the card on this page to keep personal document copies on your iPhone after retrieving them from the issuing service.
Frequently asked questions
Can I reset my Singpass password online without setting up 2FA first?
The published instant online reset route requires previously set-up Singpass two-factor authentication. If you cannot complete that route, ask Singpass for assistance with your account rather than relying on an unofficial workaround.
Do Singpass Foreign Account holders need a password reset?
Singpass says Foreign Account holders log in directly through the Singpass app without a password. Follow the official Foreign Account app instructions for that account type.
Can Dokus reset my Singpass password or store the recovery codes?
No. Complete recovery with Singpass and keep passwords and one-time codes out of your document wallet. Dokus can store personal copies of documents you obtain afterwards, but it does not authenticate to Singpass for you.
