Open the customer-service screenshot or reference copy and cover NRIC or passport details unrelated to the issue. Keep the order or case reference and information needed to resolve the request readable. Do not turn a required identity-verification scan into incomplete evidence.

Remove extra identifiers from a support attachment

A support screenshot can repeat your NRIC in a profile header or scanned attachment even when the issue is an order, payment or account setting. Check the recipient and keep the case details it actually needs; cover unrelated identifiers before sending the copy.

MDDI’s current guidance distinguishes identification from authentication. Hiding part of an NRIC in a screenshot does not create an authentication method, and this page does not prescribe a universal “last four characters” rule. If the organisation needs formal identity verification, use its specific process.

How to hide NRIC or passport details in a support copy

  1. Confirm which details the recipient needs and whether a redacted copy is accepted.
  2. Choose the NRIC or Singapore passport scan. With Blur selected, draw a box over each agreed field.
  3. Check both sides and every page. A number can appear again in a barcode or machine-readable zone.
  4. Download and inspect the actual saved JPG or PDF. The original remains unchanged.

For an NRIC, check the printed number, reverse-side number and barcode rather than assuming a single box covers it all. For a passport, check its number and machine-readable lines. An address, birth date or nationality may be relevant to the check, so do not hide a standard set of fields automatically.

A partial NRIC is not a universal verification method

PDPC’s guidance asks organisations to consider alternatives and excessive collection before requesting an NRIC copy. Ask for the purpose rather than treating a scan as necessary for every enquiry.

MDDI’s February 2026 statement separates identification from authentication and says partial NRIC numbers are not reliable for accurate identification. Redacting a reference copy does not create a valid authentication method. Follow a service’s actual verification requirements; do not substitute a masked number where it needs the full identifier or an official flow.

What the exported redaction removes

The control called Blur replaces the selected area with a texture from the surrounding paper and burns that replacement into the downloaded pixels. The saved copy has no removable overlay or original characters under that selected area. Information outside the box, in another code or on another page can still disclose the same details.

Choose JPG, PNG, HEIC or PDF up to 25 MB. HEIC depends on browser support; choosing a photo from the iPhone library can provide JPG. Only the first ten pages of an input PDF are used. The output is JPG or an image-based PDF: selectable text, form fields and digital signatures are not preserved. Keep the original when those features matter.

Processing stays in your browser, with no document upload or account. The downloaded copy removes camera metadata and leaves your chosen source unchanged.

A recipient watermark makes purpose visible while leaving details readable. Use Compress for an upload limit or Photo to PDF to lay out NRIC front and back.

Common questions

Can I hide an NRIC shown in a support screenshot?

For a customer-service issue, cover identifiers unrelated to resolving the case while keeping its order or case reference readable. If formal identity verification is required, follow that separate process.

Should I leave only the last four NRIC characters?

There is no universal rule for every recipient. Partial numbers do not reliably identify an individual; confirm the purpose, accepted fields and required verification route first.

Can the downloaded boxes be removed?

There is no original-text layer beneath the replaced pixels. That protection covers only the area selected; the same information may still appear elsewhere in the copy.

Will a redacted copy be accepted for an official check?

Only if that service explicitly accepts it. Required fields, original documents and official verification processes remain required.

Can I black out NRIC text in a support screenshot?

Select only the unrelated information agreed for that support case. Blur fills the selected region with paper-like texture, rather than drawing a black bar or blurring the source characters. Check barcodes and repeated numbers separately.
