For an eID data-access request, ask which details are needed to verify your identity. Cover only agreed unnecessary fields on the residence-permit or passport copy, then check repeated details and inspect every saved page.
Identity evidence for your eID data-access request
The Malta Identity Portal’s terms say the office may request a residence-permit/document or passport copy before responding to a subscriber’s personal-data request. That is the specific sharing context here. Ask which identity fields it needs; do not remove required evidence.
A label such as “For eID data-access request to [office], [date]” is an optional practical example, not an official Maltese requirement. Agree any redactions with the office. A prepared copy does not sign you in, activate an eID or replace an original document.
How to redact agreed fields on a data-access copy
- Ask which fields the recipient actually requires and whether a redacted reference copy is accepted.
- Choose the scan. With Blur selected, drag a box over each agreed field.
- Review front and back, any repeated card number and machine-readable lines. Remove misplaced boxes before saving.
- Download JPG or PDF, open it and check that every intended field is hidden while the required details remain readable.
For a Maltese ID card, the ID number, address or date of birth may matter to the request. For an eResidence card, validity, permit conditions or the reverse may be essential. There is no universal set of fields to remove from every copy.
Personal-data minimisation is not an application shortcut
Malta’s IDPC identifies card numbers and photographs as personal data. Ask whether a full scan is needed, then agree any fields that can be omitted. Covering a number on an image does not remove it from a repeated code, another page or the original file.
Identità’s Exempt Person guidance requests complete card sides for relevant categories. Do not hide required identifiers or residence conditions on an official submission just because the tool can do so. Keep any original-document presentation, attestation and checklist requirements.
What the downloaded redaction contains
The control labelled Blur replaces the selected area with a texture from the surrounding paper. That replacement is burned into the output pixels, with no underlying original-text layer in that selected region. It protects only the region you actually selected.
Identità’s Single Permit checklist requires the whole passport in PDF, including blank pages, and presentation of the original. This tool only uses the first ten pages of an input PDF. Do not run a longer full-passport submission through it: the saved copy would be incomplete. Keep every page required by your own checklist.
Choose JPG, PNG, HEIC or PDF up to 25 MB. HEIC depends on browser support; choosing a photo from the iPhone library can provide JPG. Only the first ten pages of an input PDF are used. The output is JPG or an image-based PDF: selectable text, form fields and digital signatures are not preserved. Keep the original when those features matter.
Processing stays in your browser, with no document upload or account. The downloaded copy removes camera metadata and leaves your chosen source unchanged.
For an accepted copy where details should stay visible but the purpose should be marked, use Watermark. Use Photo to PDF for front-and-back layout or Compress for an upload ceiling.
Common questions
Can I remove extra details for an eID data-access request?
Ask the office which details it needs to identify you. Cover only agreed unnecessary fields and inspect the saved copy, including repeated numbers and machine-readable lines.
Can I hide a Maltese ID number on a reference copy?
Yes, if the recipient does not need it and accepts the altered copy. Check both sides and repeated codes as well as the printed number.
Can someone remove the saved box?
The selected original pixels are replaced, with no removable overlay in the output. The source stays unchanged and the same data may still be visible elsewhere.
Does this make a certified or officially verified copy?
No. It makes an image-based reference copy. Use the official verification or certification process when that is required.
Does Blur only make the passport number harder to read?
No. The selected pixels are replaced with paper-like texture in the saved copy. This differs from ordinary text blur, which retains traces of the original image. Cover only fields the office agrees are unnecessary for the data-access request.
